Gallup : Unemployment rises to 9%

By C.H. Truth on Feb 21, 2012 | In News & Notes

“The U.S. unemployment rate, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 9.0% in mid-February,” Gallup said in its mid-month unemployment survey, released on February 17. “The mid-month reading normally reflects what the U.S. government reports for the entire month, and is up from 8.3% in mid-January.”

Gallup said the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) would likely report a rise in the official unemployment rate in early March, when it publishes its February figures.

Gallup’s mid-month figures are not seasonally adjusted, and so may not predict the official unemployment rate precisely. However, because Gallup and BLS both conduct their unemployment surveys at the same time – in the middle of the month – Gallup’s early figures can provide a barometer of where the official rate is likely headed.

Well... will it hold true? There are many times when the Gallup numbers are different than the BLS numbers. Certainly skeptics will be hard-pressed not to assume that the BLS will fudge the data to make it look better. Others may suggest that Gallup if just full of it.

Reality is that (like I reported here) good news on the job front is a double edge sword. You always want good job reports, but when you get them it will attract more people into the job market, thus putting upward pressure on the unemployment number.

My prediction: Unemployment goes up, but not as high as 9%, and puts a bit of a damper on all the recent enthusiasm.

Michigan tightening?

By C.H. Truth on Feb 20, 2012 | In Truth

Is Romney making a comeback in his adopted home state of Michigan? Well if the most recent PPP poll is to believed, he certainly is. PPP (which has not had a friendly slant towards Romney) shows the race within four points this week after showing Santorum up fifteen a week ago. If other pollsters show a similar swing, Romney could find himself with the "polling" lead in Michigan once again.

I still say Michigan is crucial. If Romney can come back in Michigan and win, thus sweeping Michigan and Arizona... he will hold a sizable delegate lead and have the momentum heading into Super Tuesday. With neither Santorum or Gingrich threatening to win a majority on Super Tuesday, Romney still would be in charge with the most resources and experiences if it pushes into a longer fight. If he squeaks out enough victories, his nomination "will" become mathematically inevitable. However, if Santorum wins in Michigan, it reinforces the suspicion that Romney may struggle in the great lake battle ground states needed to win in November. Unfortunately, Romney's struggles doesn't necessarily make Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich any more electable. At the end of the day, the thing that Santorum winning Michigan may accomplish is to raise the possibility that we may see a brokered convention which could certainly end up with a compromise candidate... likely one who is not even currently running... being nominated (ie: Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie, Tim Pawlenty).

Would you Really Vote For This Guy?

By hb on Feb 18, 2012 | In Post

"This is not a political war at all. This is not a cultural war. This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country - the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age. There is no one else to go after other than the United States and that has been the case now for almost two hundred years, once America's preeminence was sown by our great Founding Fathers.

He didn't have much success in the early days. Our foundation was very strong, in fact, is very strong. But over time, that great, acidic quality of time corrodes even the strongest foundations. And Satan has done so by attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition. He was successful,"

Satan? Really?

There are a lot of folks here who claim to be secular, conservatives. This guy is bonkers. And you would vote for him over even Obama? You have to be kidding me.

Moving into election time the resources used by CHT have required the site to be hosted by a virtual personal server. This accounts to approximately three times the old cost of running the site and advertising no longer funds the site. So whether it is $2.00 or $20.00, any donations are appreciated.
